Thinking of running a red light anytime soon? That is about to cost you $204.00 effective July 1st. Any plans to speed at least 10 miles per hour over the posted speed limit? Be prepared to pay a $179.00 fine, with higher speeds costing even more. All other moving violations will cost you $139.00.
New fines for traffic law violations are set to increase 07/01/08. These penalties are established by the Legislature and enacted through changes within Chapters 316 and 318 of the Florida Statutes. Local law enforcement agencies have nothing to do with the amount of these fines.
Please do not get mad at the officer if you should get a traffic ticket that costs you over $200 - the officer is doing his or her job and does not control the amount of the fine. Of course the best way to avoid getting a ticket is to drive defensively and slow down in the first place.
Safe drivers rarely, if ever, get traffic tickets.
