I started teaching a course on community policing this semester at USF Polytechnic. The fact that I am an adjunct instructor is not the point of this post for several of our police officers and supervisors serve as adjuncts at a variety of higher learning institutions around the area. I am just the latest to join the list of distinguished adjuncts from LPD.
What is important here is the updated research and reflection on community policing I have done while preparing for class lectures. I believe the key topics of this college class can be a benefit to the community as well as the students to help everyone understand what community policing really encompasses and what it does not.
Since community policing (or community-oriented policing - the terms are interchangeable) is the foundation of our policing strategy at Lakeland PD, I look forward to discussing a wide range of issues related to this contemporary policing philosophy and how it guides our efforts at LPD.
