The Lakeland Police Department is releasing the August 2008 Uniform Crime Report showing UCR Part I crime for the month and year-to-date. Please keep in mind these data are considered to be preliminary, pending further investigation and the end of the year final audit report.
Overall crime is down approximately 5.4% YTD, while violent crime is down 22.5% for the same period. We shifted resources earlier this year to combat early indicators of rising violent crime, and we continue with that strategy today. Those efforts appear to be paying dividends according to the crime numbers.
Total crime in August 2008 was up 16% from the same month last year, possibly a symptom of today's tough economic conditions.
You can view the entire report on our department web site.
