Lakeland Police Department Public Information Officer, Jack Gillen, will be retiring on January 30, 2010.

Jack has faithfully answered the “media’s” calls for the last fifteen years, many of them after hours and on the weekends, but all good things must come to an end.

Jack will be spending more time with his grandchildren, driving his wife Marilynn crazy, and yes – he will be going fishing! Jack will also continue to be an adjunct instructor at the Florida Southern College (where he has been teaching for the past 10 years) and will begin teaching at Southeastern University.

Jack also leaves the department with the Lakeland Police Museum (located at the Lakeland Police Department) he began a few years ago. Jack devoted a lot of personal time and energy to gathering items of the past. Jack says he will continue to help with the museum after he retires.

Jack has worked hard over the past years as the media contact for the Lakeland Police Department. Jack's warm personality and positive energy makes a very difficult job sometimes appear easy. Jack has worked to develop great communication exchange between our department and the media, and he will be greatly missed by all.

The Lakeland Police Department would like to wish Jack the best in his future, and thank him for all he has done for media relations with this agency.
