Lakeland Police responded to 1124 West 13th Street on September 1, 2010, at approximately 4:00 PM, after receiving information that a person had been shot at that location. When police arrived, they found Tommie McGowan, age 43, been shot in the shoulder. McGowan was taken to LRMC with non life-threatening injuries.
The investigation indicated that McGowan and Tasmine Boatwright, age 17, had been involved in an argument outside the residence over $2.00. As McGowan walked back towards his residence, he was shot in the shoulder by Boatwright.
Boatwright is currently on probation for armed burglary and was being monitored by an ankle bracelet. Boatwright was arrested later in the afternoon at a relative's home without incident. The firearm used in the shooting was a 22 caliber rifle, and the firearm was recovered after Boatwright directed officers to its location.
Boatwright was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (F2), Delinquent in Possession of a Firearm (F2), and Violation of Home Detention (F3).
