Lakeland Police Investigate Robbery

On April 22, 2012 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Lakeland Police responded to the McDonald’s restaurant located at 715 E. Memorial Boulevard in reference to a robbery.  Upon arrival officers spoke with witnesses, who stated the suspect entered the restaurant and jumped the counter, demanding food.  During the incident, the manager was struck in the ribs with a baseball bat.  The manager was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. 

Officers are on scene, interviewing witnesses.  No suspect is in custody.  The investigation is ongoing.  No further information is available at this time.

Lakeland Police Promotional and 2011 Annual Awards Ceremony

On April 19, 2012, the Lakeland Police Department held a promotional ceremony and the 2011 Annual Awards Ceremony.  The event was held at the First United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m.

The evening began with the promotion of Sergeant Steven Pacheco to the rank of Lieutenant and Officer Tye Thompson to the rank of Sergeant.  Congratulations to both officers on their promotions!

Following the promotional ceremony, the annual awards ceremony was held.  This ceremony recognizes employees for exemplary service to the organization and community. 

Awards were given in the following categories; Meritorious Service, Life Saving, and Community Service.

In addition, the department awarded the Citizen’s Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Steven Hargreaves, Ms. Maria Irizarry, and Chaplain Lee Lallance & the First United Methodist Church Staff.  The Civilian of the Year Award was given to Public Safety Aide Darlene Melius.  This year there were two detectives who received Co-Detectives of the year, Detective Dale Deas and Detective Nick Marolda.

Finally, Officer Arnulfo Crispin was awarded the Officer of the Year, the Medal of Valor, and the Purple Heart, posthumously in appreciation of the dedicated service he gave to the Lakeland Police Department.  Chief Womack retired Officer Crispin’s badge #267.

Officer Crispin will forever be in the hearts of the men and women of the Lakeland Police Department.

Lakeland Police Attempt to Identify Vehicle Burglary/Credit Card Fraud Suspect

Lakeland Police are attempting to identify this suspect of a vehicle burglary that occurred on 2/1/12 in the northwest area of Lakeland, Florida.  The suspect used a stolen credit card taken from the vehicle on 2/2/12 at Wal-Mart, 3501 S Florida Avenue.

Lakeland Police Honors Volunteers

On Tuesday, April 11, 2011, the Lakeland Police Department honored the volunteers who do so much for the department.  A dinner was held at the Coleman Bush Building where the volunteers were served a great dinner provided by Texas Cattle Company. 

Lakeland Police Department values the outpouring of support we receive from the community.  The tremendous efforts of our hundreds of volunteers help make Lakeland a vibrant, safe place to call home.  In 2011, our volunteers gave close to 25,000 hours of their time to serve the residents of the community and the police department.  These hours equal to nearly a half million dollars in man-hours, which is why the Lakeland Police Department values each and every volunteer.

Faye Beyer and Shirley Mobley, were recognized as the 2011 Volunteers of the Year; and Kaylyn Wheeler, Joshua Dorofy, Anthony Dozier, and Kenna West, as the 2011 Youth Volunteers of the Year.  Congratulations to these award recipients.

Lakeland Police Investigate Traffic Crash with Injuries - UDPDATE

Vehicle 1 Driver:  Mohammed A. Hossain, 19, Lakeland

Vehicle 1 Passenger:  Charlee Force, 15, Lakeland

Vehicle 1 Passenger:  Jordan Douglas, 16, Lakeland

Vehicle 2 Driver:  Robert L. Madden, 73, Lakeland

Robert L. Madden was driving southbound on South Florida Avenue in a 2004 Silver Lexus RX3 when Mohammed A. Hossain made a left turn at Beacon Avenue in front of him.  The front of Mr. Madden’s vehicle impacted the right side of the black 2000 BMW Mr. Hossain was driving, causing injuries to the two passengers in his vehicle.  Charlee Force was transported via Bay Flight to Tampa General Hospital, and Jordan Douglas was transported via EMS to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, both are expected to recover from their injuries.  Next of kin has been notified.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Lakeland Police responded to S. Florida Avenue and Beacon in reference to a traffic crash. The crash involves two vehicles and there have been two juveniles transported with serious injuries. Officers have southbound S. Florida between Beacon and Oak shutdown for an unknown time due to a fuel leak. LPD is asking people to avoid this area and to take alternate routes.

Details of the crash are not known at this time. As more information is received, further updates will be put out.

Lakeland Police Attempt to Identify Vehicle Burglary/Credit Card Fraud Suspects

Lakeland Police are attempting to identify suspects of a vehicle burglary and credit card fraud. On 3/9/12,  a wallet was removed from a vehicle parked at a residence in northeast Lakeland.  Credit cards from the wallet were used at several locations in Lakeland on 3/10/12 by the suspects in the images on the right. 

Suspects are further described as a white male with a possible tattoo on upper left forearm and a pregnant white female.  Suspects were driving a medium size car.

Lakeland Police Attempt to Identify Grand Theft Suspect

Lakeland Police are attempting to identify this suspect of a grand theft that occurred at Books A Million, 1520 Town Center Drive, Lakeland, FL, on 2/19/12.  The suspect concealed merchandise and left the store without paying for the merchandise. 

Suspect is further described as a white female, 20 to 30 years of age, 160 to 170 pounds, with long, brown, curly hair.
